Bekoff 85-109

This bit of reading was very interesting to say the least. I do believe that animals play fair and are honest most of the time with each other. It is probable that animals communicate with each other, thus they have rules when they play games just like humans. Animals play all shorts of games all the time. Some might consider survival a game for most of them. Animals can be punished by allies and other animals by not getting to play with others. There is a mother for animals so its not like there own there own all the time. The bottom line is that I do believe animals have thoughts and moral rules just like humans and they act as civil as possible in having rules and consequences. The one subject about "fairness" for animals that is hard for me to understand is marriage. It seems that animals do not form relationships with the opposite sex very often. Most of the time the female is the dominant sex and the father is not a big part in the animals life. It is hard to think animals believe in marriage because they often mate with more then 1 animals and bread with others a lot of the time. However, I am one that does put humans on the top of the pedestal compared to other species because of the reality they we are the best combination of biggest, strongest, fastest, and most importantly smartest. Yes humans can be horrible people but it is still evident that we are better then animals.

EOA 393-400

This article makes many good points on how America has changed in the last five years. It is interesting how we are fighting in Iraq when Al Qaeda seems to be the more dangerous threat. It must be tough on people living in America from the middle east because of all the stereotypes that surround them. Relating this article to a previous one about terrorist attacks in the world. The article stated that the Middle East had the Least amount of terrorist attacks and a South American country had the most. I think that most of the Middle East terrorist attacks were aimed towards the USA as to a small percent from South America aimed towards USA. This article certainly seems to be a one sides argument for pro war. The author strongly believes in war to protect our country. There is no doubt that people are out to get us everyday and we have to rely on our troops to protect us no matter what. Sometimes I don't always agree with our Nations decisions but I respect them and hope for the best.

A modest proposal

My perspective of abortion is quite vague. I think there are certain circumstances were I would agree with abortion and others were I would not agree with abortion. One said would say killing a fetus is murder and should not be tolerated or even legal. This is a good point because technically it is or will become a person and many would argue they have a right to live. However, there are many circumstances were I think abortion is alright. If a women is raped and becomes pregnant I think abortion is perfectly normal and OK because they should not have to suffer even more pain then what had already occurred. If a family is in a financial crisis and can not afford a baby it would be unfair to have the baby live a miserable life as well. Under no circumstance do I think its OK to use abortion as birth control. I found this article very confusing but it did raise some key concerns that we need to deal with in everyday life.

Fast Food?

I do not blame fast food at all for people being over weight. Their are many other reasons people are overweight in America compared to other country's. I think technology is a major part in obesity. If you look at our country 30 years ago before the internet and digital TV people were a lot more active and most were not over-weight. Now kids are more concerned in playing video games or watching TV then playing sports or going to the park. It a shame that Americas pastime of baseball has seemed to turn into a forgotten subject of American history. It irritated me so much over the summer on kids complaining about the heat or being lazy instead of playing aports with myself or other friends. I just feel that now a days people rely on others to do their work for them and need to take responsibility for themselves.

EOA 288 289

It is amazing on what technology is and has turned into. I feel over the last 20 years technology has made the biggest steps in the world then any other time period. Just to think 20 years ago we as humans did not have cell phones, digital cameras, computers, the internet, etc. Now it seems as daily procedure to send text messages and blog to friends on facebook. It would have been very interesting to see youthful videos or former presidents and it seems inevitable that we will over the next few years. It seems life as a kid would have been drastically different had I grown up 20 years ago. The media may very well be taking over the internet world as well.

VT Shooting

Many interesting points were told in this article that I was unaware of. I liked how she went into more detail about the shooting to give us all a better perspective on really how bad it was. Just thinking about it 33 people killed in a shooting by a inexperience student is just mind boggling. I couldn't imagine what kind of gun was used, how many people were in the class rooms, and how long this crisis went on for. I'm not sure why CNN is crowing this man that captured brief video footage on his cell phone and calling him a hero. Yes it certainly is useful video and he was very courage for staying on the scene. Some would call him crazy and others stupid but realistically he might have wanted to be a "hero". Personally, recording this scene on my cell phone would be that last thing on my mind.

SIngle-Sex Education

It is clear that the numbers speak for themselves, single-sex education is beneficial for both sex's. I am not a fan of single-sex institutions and have had several people I know attend an all boy or all girl high school, they seemed to enjoy it. I found it uncommon and weird on why people would want to go to a school of just men or women. But the numbers do not lie, graduation rates and job offerings seem to be a lot better to these people. Though I do not agree with a single-sex institution I would support them and believe they should continue on what they do. It will be very interesting if these schools continue to teach single-sex education or switch to a normal school over the next few years.
