EOA 85-90

It is very interesting of how some laws are written and enforced. I think it’s strange that the Fifth Amendment gives a person the right to remain silence; however a person can be held imprisoned until he or she decides to talk. I agree with holding a person imprisoned if they decide not to talk to a judge. I believe as an American citizen it is important to be fair and safe to every individual and if a person doesn’t want to talk they are hiding information that would probably incriminate somebody instead of letting dangerous people back on the streets. I also agree with the ticking tomb bomb theory and how it’s connected to torture and torture warrants. I believe by all means necessary it is right to protect innocent lives.

  1. OK, OK. I must agree that it is important to make strong sacrifices in order conserve innocent lives. But lets just make torture legal, its big deal... we kill people all the time. I'm sure torture goes on in the army in many ways. That is how feel, plus physical torture is also not a big deal because the human body is very resilient and usually can heal. I'm sure the psychological trauma isn't much of a impact, especially if the guy is some kind of a terrorist. That is my two cents, have a nice day!

  2. That is an interesting way to look at the laws.. I never thought of it that way. That people have the right to remain silent, but can be held captive until they are forced to talk.. That is definitely an interesting way to look at the matter. Torture is and will go on whether we like it or not. I don't really see what making it legal will do, besides for officials to push and try and find loopholes. When it comes down to it, I don't think we should have a problem with torturing a person, that put himself in that kind of situation anyway, to get useful information.

  3. Yes people have the right to remain silent, but if we were positive that certain people, especially terrorists, had information that we needed to save lives we should do anything it takes. Torture probibly happens all the time, but we just dont know it. It woul not make a differance if they made it illegal anywys because the government can do whatever they want. If they had a person suspected of having useful information we would never know what happened to them and whether they tortured them or not.
